BUILDERS OF PEACE, HEART, COMMUNITY - Marin Center for Peace and Justice mural - Directed by Susan Cervantes and Miranda Bergman - Precita Eyes muralists © 2005 Larger view

Picture being stuck in traffic at The Hub and gazing at this mural in blazing color;

Wouldn’t it be great?

Wouldn’t an unpleasant stretch of your day be a little brighter and happier?

The Peace Center of Marin has raised the money to finance this project, paid the artists and months ago paid $1,000 to submit an application to the Town for permission to paint the mural on Ford Greene’s wall at The Hub.

The Town’s response has been to delay processing of the Peace Center’s application, then to insert language in the proposed sign ordinance that would make the mural illegal and now have adopted an “emergency ordinance” that stops dead the Peace Center’s mural application.

Isn’t it enough that our Town Council has targeted First Amendment speech on The Freedom Sign? Now it targets art that celebrates the struggle for justice and peace?

Is this how to run our town?

It is time to vote for a change. Make your voice heard against this emergency ordinance. Make your vote count on November 8, 2005.

OUT WITH MEAN! IN WITH GREENE;
