ROSS VALLEY VOTE

Time to reconsider 'election'

Boy, I really have a hard time agreeing with just about anything Ford Greene says or does. This time, he is on the right track. It's time to reconsider the results of the Ross Valley flood control "election."

First, let's all admit that this is a tax and not a fee. Hal Brown stated in the IJ article on July 24, "Unless the courts do something unexpected, that means going forward, collecting the property tax, etc., etc." OK, if Hal says it's a property tax, then it should have been worded that way and passed with two-thirds of the vote like any other Proposition 13 tax measure. I think we are going to see this on our property tax bill.

Since Greene looked at the results of the 1,678 unsigned ballots and found that the election would have gone the other way, it is time to take a mulligan, do-over or whatever you want to call it.

I agree with Brown that something has to be done to avoid the tragic floods that ravage this area. The election process must be improved. The pending one really does smell.
